On 8 October 2005, an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale struck northern Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of around 80,000 people, injuring more than 300,000, and leaving 3.5 million homeless. Following the initial quake, the focal depth of which was an estimated 26 km, a further 2,033 aftershocks, some measuring as high as 6 on the Richter scale, compounded the devastation. Improving Management of School Safety in Thailand

Improving school safety requires appropriate leadership and management, and this is not always present in developing countries. For example, in Thailand, school safety has generally been considered low priority compared to other educational issues, and schools struggle to justify the cost of safety.
